Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategies  - ISO 14064 - 2

With current and anticipated local, provincial and federal regulations, as well as voluntary corporate and association commitments to sustainability, energy consumers and producers are compelled to develop greenhouse gas management plans to minimize energy production/use costs and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Developed by CSA Group and delivered by the School of the Environment, The Certificate in Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategies is a 2-day course which will provide the learner with an understanding of the fundamentals of greenhouse gas project quantification, monitoring and reporting concepts and techniques. 

In this course we will explore greenhouse gas projects – those that both reduce emissions (e.g. alternative energy systems) and enhance emission removals (e.g. forestry projects). We will also review the requirements of ISO 14064-2, which specifies the principles and requirements and provides guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities intended to cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions or removal enhancements.

Linkages between ISO 14064-2 and other GHG protocols, such as the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol for projects and the Voluntary Carbon Standard will be explored.  Potential linkages with the Clean Development Mechanism will also be discussed.

No prerequisite is required and you need not have an environmental background.

Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:

Develop and understanding and be able to apply the ISO 14064-2 GHG Standard for Projects adn the WBCSD/WRI Protocol for Projects
Develop and understanding of the importance of the development and implementtion of verifiable quantification procedures for GHG projects
Apply good practice guidance to develop quantification procedures according the the ISO 14064-2 GHG Standard for Projects and the WBCSD/WRI Protocol for Projects

Bryce Conacher advises organizations on sustainability, carbon risk assessment and carbon opportunity development, and is an International Standards Organization (ISO) 14064 and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol subject matter expert. In January 2010, Bryce received recognition by CSA America Inc. as one of its first ever Certified Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quantifiers.

Along with his responsibilities at Offsetters, Bryce is a lead instructor and course developer for the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) full suite of ISO 14064 GHG and WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol courses on corporate GHG inventories, GHG projects and verification, Bryce conducted workshops in the fall of 2009 for ISO in Bangkok, Thailand and Colombo, Sri Lanka at the ISO Regional Seminars on Greenhouse Gas Quantification, Reporting and Verification based on ISO 14064 and ISO 14065. From 2005-2008 Bryce took an active role in the voluntary carbon market with the founding and establishment of Cleanairpass™.
